Congratulations to Michelle and Barack Obama for reaching their 25th wedding anniversary!
Michelle tweeted a photograph from their wedding day 25 years ago…
She said: “Happy 25th anniversary @barackobama. A quarter of a century later, you’re still my best friend & the most extraordinary man I know. I 💕 you.”
How their relationship started…
The Former president and first lady of the USA revealed that their first date was an entire day spent together: beginning at the Art Institute of Chicago where they had lunch before taking a stroll down the city’s Michigan Avenue. They then went to see the then recently-released Spike Lee film Do The Right Thing about racial tensions in 1980s New York.
Mrs Obama recalls the date saying: “It was a cool date, we spent the whole day together, he was showing me all facets of his character. We went to the Art Institute.”
Michelle also gave the following relationship advice: “The advice I would give to woman: don’t look at the bank book or the title. Look at the heart, look at the soul.
“Look at how the guy treats his mother and what he says about women and how he acts with children that he doesn’t know and more important how does he treat you?
“When you’re dating a man you should always feel good you should never be in a relationship with a man who doesn’t make you completely happy and make you feel whole.
“Find that person that brings you complete an utter joy.”
Michelle and Barack said “I do” at Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago back on October 3rd 1992.
The bride’s brother walked her down the aisle, while the groom’s brother served as best man.
After the vows, a reception was held at the South Shore Cultural Centre. The couple chose Steve Wonder’s “You and I” for their first dance as husband and wife. They had their honeymoon in California.
Michelle was every bit a 90’s bride – she wore an off the shoulder wedding gown, complete with a super pouffy veil and large pearl drop earrings.
We wish Mr and Mrs Obama many more happy years together!
