Choosing Your Bridesmaids

by Lucy Hope

Wow ladies, congratulations!

Now comes the hard part though, deciding on who you want to be your bridesmaids. Oooh dear!

Some brides try to avoid disappointing anyone by asking people they don’t really want to participate. This is a big no no. This is YOUR day, you have to be selfish, so only ask those you’ll be happy to hear a “yes” from.

But don’t fret, just take a deep breath, we’re with you all the way and you got this!

Think Twice Before You Ask

Now, we’re pretty sure you already know this, but once you’ve asked someone to be in your wedding party, you can’t go back. So take your time, give yourself at least a month if you can to go over your options.

Don’t Ask Someone Just Because They Asked You

We know you’ll all feel extremely guilty if someone asked you to be in theirs and you don’t return the favour. But this is YOUR big day, no one else’s.

The Sibling Situation

It will probably go without saying that your sister is part of your bridal party, but if you aren’t that close to her, it’s still usually worth including her just to avoid unnecessary conflict. Also, if your Groom has a sister, and you aren’t particularly close to her, siblings are going to be around forever…

Your Bridesmaid Doesn’t Have To Be Female

If your best friend is a guy, there’s no reason why he can’t be in your wedding, simple!

Keep the future in mind – in 10 years time, you don’t want to be looking at your wedding photos saying “I wish I never asked her to be one of my bridesmaids.” Also, if you’re on a limited budget, and you have quite a few bridesmaids, who’ll have to pay for all of those bridesmaid bouquets for example?

You Can Have An Uneven Number Of Bridesmaids And Groomsmen

Don’t put yourself under added pressure to fill positions if your Groom has more groomsmen.

You need someone who’s one of your best friends obviously, but above all else, you need someone who is reliable. Someone that you know will be there for you come rain or shine, no matter what.
