Is It Acceptable to Wear Black at a Wedding?

Do you think it’s acceptable to wear black at a wedding? For some, it’s an absolute no no, but for others it’s perfectly fine…

I hadn’t actually properly thought about it until my Grandma decided to rock up to my wedding in a head to toe black ensemble… and my Mum casually nudged me in the ribs mid group photographs and whispered, “Oooh, she’s wearing black – she must disagree with the wedding!!”

You would normally be expected to wear black to a funeral, as it’s obviously meant to symbolise the fact that you’re in mourning… however, wearing black to wedding is now actually starting to become more and more acceptable. Some brides even choose the colour black for their bridesmaids… despite superstitions surrounding this choice that it’ll bring bad luck to the marriage.

Black is a timeless classic – admit it, you must have at least one LBD in your wardrobe… It’s uber flattering, super sophisticated and always easy to wear. I think, worn in the right way, black should be ok to wear to a wedding – times have changed, and as long as the bride and groom haven’t specified a particular colour scheme then you should definitely consider one of these  beautiful black dresses…
