An Invitation to a Real Wedding – Sharon & Dan

We have fallen head over heels for this GORGEOUS country house wedding, held in beautiful Ireland… We think you’ll LOVE it too – the colour palette is so pretty. Sharon’s dress took our breath away.

Take a look for yourself!

How He Asked…

“My partner, Dan, made me climb the tower of Durham Cathedral very early on a Saturday morning, after enjoying a beautiful breakfast alone, as the family were back home babysitting – We had two children within 2 years of meeting each other, so alone time is very precious!
I’m very competitive, so of course… I said yes – I’ll climb it! Little did I know, the stairs are practically vertical! At the top of the tower, we stood admiring the views of Durham on such a beautiful August morning. We had the the whole tower to ourselves! Dan seemed so nervous – I thought to myself  ‘he must be be nervous of heights!’
I turned around to find him down on one knee!! It was fantastic! Dan made the whole day so special – he made me feel like an absolute princess. He took me into Durham and bought me two new outfits to go celebrate with… He had dinner booked In a 3 star Michelin restaurant! We stayed in the best hotel and he had covered our room in rose petals. The champagne was flowing too – It was amazing!”

The Ceremony Details…

“We decided on a Catholic church ceremony in Ireland and invited 130 of our nearest and dearest to join us. It was pretty much your typical Irish wedding… My friend played the harp and sang which made our ceremony extra special. My daughter and son were also involved in the wedding – which was lovely!”

The Reception Details…

“Our reception was held at Castleoaks hotel, Castleconnell, Limerick. We had 130 guests for the day and evening. The food was amazing! For starters we had a choice of either Smoked Haddock Fish Cake or a Black Pudding Tart, then we had a Butternut Squash Soup. The main courses were Seabass with crispy skin served alongside Mediterranean Vegetables or Beef with a Red Wine Jus and Seasonal Vegetables. To finish, our dessert was zesty Lime and Ginger Cheesecake. Red and white wine was flowing before and during the meal.”

“The speeches were done after our meal. All was going smoothly until my bridesmaids decided to liven up the speeches by turning their speech into a rap along to The Fresh Prince of Bel Air! It was absolutely fantastic! They pulled out sunglasses and off they went – rapping about my life and how I met Dan!”

“We had a band called Panic Animal play at our wedding and I must saw they had everybody up dancing from their first song!

My Sister in Law made my wedding cake and all I can say about that is WOW! She is a very talented lady. The cake matched the colours of my wedding bouquet perfectly. Unfortunately, by the time I came home from honeymoon my mother had given the cake to any visitors, neighbours or family, so I didn’t even get to taste the cake…”

The Wedding Party…

“For my bridesmaids – I chose my two sisters and my best friend from when I was younger. I sent them all a picture message asking them to be my bridesmaids and I knew they presumed they were anyway – so I had to make it official for them! The girls wore the most amazing raspberry multiway dresses from Cari’s Closet. I chose multiway dresses as the girls all have a different style, and it was so hard to find one that would suit them all as well as feel comfortable in. They looked fantastic. They each had the dresses tied differently – it was lovely!”

“The groomsmen were Dan’s two brothers and also his best friend. Dan asked the boys while out for a few drinks together… The boys wore navy blue suits, a blue waistcoat with a raspberry cravat and brown shoes. They looked very smart.”

The Bride and Groom Outfits…

“My dress was by Rosa Clara. Oh how I wish I could wear it again – just for one more day! I found it on Pinterest and hunted it down…
The minute I tried it on, I knew it was the dress! My mom was the only one who came with me to buy the dress, because she knows me the best and it was a lovely moment with just the two of us!”

“My friend Orlaith Carroll who owns The Attic in Limerick made me the most amazing cathedral length veil to match my dress. I also had a head piece made to match my dress… as it had opals adorning my dress, it was hard to find an exact match. I wore opal drop earrings from Coast and wore plain ivory leather shoes.”

 The Finer Details

“For my bouquet, I chose a mixture of roses and seasonal flowers. I had Ring of Roses as my florist who was amazing – So creative! I showed her what I wanted, she tweaked it slightly and the outcome was fantastic. Gorgeous colours of reds and mustards!

In terms of our decor, I bought all of my table numbers from Hobbycraft and wrapped them in twine to give them that rustic look… It took me forever, but they turned out fab!

For favours, we had a candy table and cupcakes on arrival…. we decided this would work best for our guest, as I think favours are a waste of money and time as they normally just get left behind…”

What advice would you give to other Brides / Grooms to be?

“Take 15 minutes alone with your groom before dinner! Spend it alone having a glass of champagne and savouring the moment, because the day goes by so fast…”
