Invitation to a Real Wedding: Lee and Natalie

by Lottie

Natalie and Lee’s colourful wedding instantly caught our eye in our group. We had a little chat with Natalie to tell us everything from proposal to big the day…

How did he ask?

Myself and Lee have been best friends since high school. 10 years later while teaching me to drive, we finally fell in love. After 5 years together Lee proposed and of course I said yes! We were on holiday at  Disney World in Florida, and was dining at the California Grill restaurant, who’s rooftop terrace overlooked Cinderella’s castle at the Magic Kingdom park. While standing outside watching Disney’s `Wishes` fireworks, Lee asked me what my wish would be. While I was thinking of an unselfish answer, Lee took my hand and turned me around. He was down on one knee, holding an engagement ring telling me that his wish was that I would be his wife!

How did you decide on your theme?

I have always loved Disney and knew that I wanted it incorporated into our wedding, discreetly without it being too tacky. I had a few funny looks when I told people what I was planning, but I’m glad I stuck to my ideas and had the most perfect day. A vintage Alice in Wonderland theme was decided with a touch of Disney Pixar’s ‘UP’ and our wedding theme was green as that is Lee’s favourite colour.

We love all your little details – tell us about them?

One of my best friends Shellie made our beautiful teapot centrepieces and I added my own creative touch to our guestbook, cake knife and guestbook. We even used our own handprints to make an ‘UP’ themed post-box for our wedding cards. I had a beautiful coloured bouquet made to represent the balloons from the film. We also had ‘drink me’ shots and Mickey Mouse shaped bottle openers as our favours.

What about that amazing cake?

We were lucky enough to win our wedding cake from a raffle at a wedding fair. Elena was amazing and was happy to experiment when we mentioned our love of Disney. It looked and tasted amazing. As we won our cake, we decided to pay to have a personalised cake topper made, which was incredible. Denisa is amazing at what she does and we had so many compliments about it.

What about your Groomsmen and Bridesmaids?

We had decided to have a low budget wedding, and splash out on our honeymoon to DisneyWorld. Because of that we had a very small bridal party with only 49 guests in the day and 90 in the evening. Our best man was Andrew,  Lee’s childhood best friend and his two ushers were close friends David and Steve. With so many close friends to choose from I ended up having my sister Nadine as maid of honour and Lee’s sister Shauna as our bridesmaid.

Did you have any entertainment?

During our photos we served bucks fizz and mince pies and had an amazing magician James Hawker preform. He had donated his time free of charge in exchange for a donation to a little boy, who was collecting for an eye gazer machine to help him communicate. Such an amazing man and magician.

Tell us about your dress?

My dress was from All About Eve in Newport. I knew I wanted my dress there when I was bridesmaid for my best friend Natalie a couple of years beforehand. They were great and I ended up getting a Ronald Joyce Lizzie sample dress for a third of the price. Lee wanted to wear a black suit and bought his from Slaters in Cardiff.

Whats your most memorable moment?

Lees most memorable moment was when he complimented my dress after I had walked down the isle. I smiled, and exclaimed, “Thanks, its got pockets!”

My most memorable moment was sitting at the top table with my husband by my side, thinking I had never been so happy, looking around at all our friends and family together under one roof, all so happy laughing and enjoying themselves.

Awww – what a lovely day. Wishing this special couple a lifetime of love and happiness. YWH x
